This “Wailing Ritual” was initially inspired by a short grief ritual done with Joanna Macy. We begin with a grounding meditation, an introduction to the value of community grief ritual, then a talking circle where participants share briefly about why they are called to join this ritual. We put on music to stretch and move, calling us to get embodied. From that we provide steady drumming on our beautiful mother drum (shown in photo above) as backdrop to when everyone is invited to express their grief somatically and vocally in whatever way feels helpful. This is the heart of the ritual and lasts about an hour. We end with song, then get grounded with root vegetables as we check in with each other. After that we bring closure to the evening.

This ritual is offered for a sliding scale of $25-50. Pay through Venmo (Therese-Charvet), PayPal (theresecharvet@gmail.com) or bring cash when you come. This ritual happens indoors in our private home, the ’round house’ here at Sacred Groves. Space is limited.
