Red Cedar Circle

May 26, 2024, 1pm – 5:30pm

The Red Cedar Circle has its roots in the indigenous peoples of the Salish Sea. This ceremony arises from the teachings of Johnny Moses (whose traditional name is Whis.stem.men.knee –Walking Medicine Robe), a carrier of the Si.Si.Wiss (sacred breath, sacred life) medicine teachings and healing ceremonies of his Northwest Coast people. Johnny, who is of Tulalip and Spokane tribes heritage, learned from his grandparents when he was growing up in the remote Nuu-chah-nulth village of Ohiat on the west coast of Vancouver Island, B.C., Canada. He was sent by his elders to share their teachings with all people. You can read more about him at this website.

The Red Cedar Circle will be led by Lesley Collins who learned these ways from Jill Fanning who was a student of Johnny’s for over a decade.  The circle consists of songs, prayers, simple dances, a shamanic healing ceremony, talking circle and a potluck meal.

Sacred Groves is honored to host the Red Cedar Circle, as it is the only ceremony offered here that has its roots in the lands and peoples of the Salish Sea.

The Red Cedar Circle will be held 1pm-5pm at Sacred Groves 9255 Holly Farm Ln NE, Bainbridge Island, WA.  It is open to all genders. Please carpool if possible since we live on a one-lane dead-end road and parking is limited.  RSVP to info@sacredgroves.com is requested.

There is no fee for this ceremony but donations are welcome.  Please bring something to contribute to the potluck.
